Harrison Gwamnishu, a human rights activist, has responded after being accused of withholding funds destined for his treatment by actor Kingsley Orji.
According to Kingsley Orji, philanthropist Ibori Ubulu donated N1.5 million to his treatment, while N5 million went to Harrison Gwamishu, but Harrison will not give him the 5 million Naira. READ MORE
Harrison said he withheld the money after finding out that Orji was using the N1.5m in his possession for purposes unrelated to his medical care.
Harrison shared screenshots showing his efforts to send Orji to India for surgery.
He wrote on Facebook: “We paid for the test, paid for the X-ray, paid for his transportation to/from and contacted the Visa agent before we discovered he squandered the 1.5m for processing his visa.”
In his post, Harrison describes how he met and decided to help actor Kingsley Orji: “He approached me for help to post an appeal on my page, and some people responded, and I sent him 105,000Naira.”.
“Ubori Ubulu, my brother, called me later to ask how we can help him. I told him I don’t know him personally, but he sent me medical reports regarding his condition and needs assistance with the surgery on his leg.
As a result, he sent me the sum of 5 million naira with instructions to guide and follow up on the entire process till Kingsley is back on his feet; he already sent 1.5 million naira to Kingsley’s account.
“I contacted Kingsley and also our representative in Lagos to follow through on his medical tests (x-rays and lab tests) and to work with a visa agent to arrange his travel arrangements to India for his surgery.
As time went on, he started pulling back and I made some investigations which revealed that someone prior to that time sent him some money for his treatment, which he then squandered. There is proof to back this up…we cannot allow that to happen again.
“After speaking with Ibori, he asked that I ask him to send the money that was initially sent to him to my account so we ensure he gets the required treatment this time. He blatantly refused instead, he said Ibori asked him to use 500,000naira and keep 1m for treatment,I said ok,since 500,000naira is for your expenses, send back one million naira,he still refused till date but insisting for me to send him the 5million naira claiming to have started his visa process which I have no evidence to.
In conclusion, I will not engage in any dubious acts with anyone. #DueProcess”
He kept asking our Lagos representative for feeding money on a weekly basis, yet he claimed 500,000naira is what he is keeping back for feeding.”.
“I wish him quick recovery but the right thing must be done.”
To counter Orji’s claim that Harrison is preventing him from going to India for treatment, Harrison released screenshot of a chat where he was telling someone that Orji “must go to India by force.”
He also released other screenshots. See below.
