Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was arrested abroad and returned to Abuja on Sunday in an “unconventional way,” it was reported yesterday.

Nigeria’s Security and Intelligence agencies planned and executed the arrest. The Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) coordinated the operation.

According to reports, the NIA, which is the external arm of Nigeria’s security intelligence, lured the separatist campaigner from London to another country, where he was “intercepted” and flown to Abuja in a chattered jet. There are conflicting names given for the country where he was arrested.

Apparently, Kanu’s arrest and repatriation shocked Nigeria’s foreign mission because it came as a shock to them.

Source: “The security agencies received intelligence that Kanu was out of London, so they quickly activated the arrest plan. The entire process was unconventional. When he was picked up and brought to Nigeria, he was in a hotel with a woman.

“Intelligence agencies tracked him to Britain and Germany (where his brother lives), but they couldn’t catch him until he jetted to South America. A rendezvous was scheduled in a hotel with a woman.

“I can only tell you that he was “picked up” and brought to justice. As a result, the government has repeatedly claimed Kanu was intercepted. Nigerian envoys did not participate in the operation.

Since Kanu had jumped bail, the unconventional method was possible since the Federal Government was tracking him through the International Police (INTERPOL).

According to another source, Kanu broke down when he realized he was in Nigeria.

“He cried intermittently when he realized that the game had ended. A security agent, however, encouraged him to cooperate and consoled him.

Top government officials, who had restricted access to him, said he was begging for forgiveness.”

Kanu’s trial was resumed yesterday before justice Binta Murtala Nyako. According to the him, he fled the country to avoid being killed.
