Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule commented on the controversial Petroleum Industry Bill allocation for oil-producing states that has generated controversy in recent days.
According to the governor in an interview on Channels television, it doesn’t matter whether host communities get three percent or five percent as the wellbeing of the states is what matters.
The totality of what goes to the communities must be considered.
“Is it just the three percent they get. The 13% derivation that goes to the states has been forgotten. Even if you give three or five percent, does it make a difference in the communities, or does it only benefit a few.
It doesn’t matter to me whether it is three or five percent. What matters is, let’s take a look at what is happening in the Niger Delta. If we give them five percent, is that the end of the crisis there? It is deeper than that.”
