Ijaw youths protesting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, shut down the offices of the Niger Delta Development Commission Eastern By-Pass on Thursday.
Protesters under the aegis of the Ijaw Youths Council, numbering over 700, were all dressed in the council’s uniform.
The flag of the Green-Red-Blue IYC was hoisted in front of the secretariat, preventing any human or vehicular entry.
Ijaw youth mounted two tents outside the newly-commissioned complex, singing and dancing to songs of solidarity.
A spokesperson in the Eastern Zone of the IYC revealed that the action was initiated by Peter Igbifa, IYC President, following the expiration of the deadline for the Federal Government to constitute a substantive board for the NDDC.
A police team with security vehicles was spotted at the complex monitoring protesting youths, who claim they will remain until the NDDC board is inaugurated.
