According to Muhammad Abdullahi, chief of staff to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, 73 percent of women in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State agree that men can beat women.

During the launch of the UN Population Fund’s State of the World Population Report 2021, presented in conjunction with the Planning and Budget Commission (PBC) in Kaduna, Abdullahi said the results were based on the state Bureau of Statistics’ current General Household Survey, which is being reviewed by relevant stakeholders.

Kaduna Governor’s Chief of Staff also disclosed that a survey showed that over 30 percent of girls in Kubau and Kudan LGAs are married off before they turn 15 while 38 percent of girls in Soba LGA are married off before they turn 15 years old.

According to a zonal survey, 32 percent of girls are married off before age 15 in Kaduna North Senatorial Zone, 15 percent in Kaduna Central, and 17 percent in Kaduna South. In addition, the survey also shows a 49 percent prevalence of female genital mutilation in Makarfi LGA and a 34 percent prevalence in Giwa LGA.

Abdullahi said;

Thus, for Kaduna State, the 2021 State of the World Population Report is timely and will help us to understand these troubling statistics better.

"The relevant ministries, agencies, in particular the Ministry of Health, Human Services and Social Development, will study the report closely and provide a clear implementation plan for some of the recommendations."
