Abdullahi Mohammed Gobirawa was beaten to death as a suspected informant of bandits terrorising citizens of Kaduna.

Angry adolescents allegedly attacked his apartment and murdered him, along with his wife and children.

According to State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs Samuel Aruwan, the mob action was in retaliation for the trio’s alleged collusion with bandits, particularly in connection with recent kidnappings in the region.

According to him, the mob plundered and set fire to the trio’s house after they were murdered.

He said that upon hearing the reports, Governor Nasir El-Rufai voiced his sorrow and concern over residents’ aggressive behaviour and strongly opposed extrajudicial executions.

He emphasised the need of using only legal ways to fight allegations of crime, since harmful self-help practises would only result in more damage.

The Governor asked law enforcement agencies to undertake comprehensive investigations into the event and encouraged civilians to preserve order.

He advised against all forms of stereotyping and pleaded for persistent recourse to the appropriate authorities while the incident’s inquiry is ongoing.
