Security sources report that gunmen believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) are currently attacking a military formation in Borno state’s southern region.
Around 10:30am, dozens of gun trucks stormed the remote town of Damboa with deadly weapons.
As residents and displaced persons fled for their lives, the incident threw the town into confusion.
A source claims that ground forces and local volunteers were assisted by air power.
“These boys (ISWAP) are attacking state forces in Damboa town, which I can confirm to you. The airpower has been activated to support the troops. The security source said, “Everything is under control.”.
Damboa is 100 kilometers from Maiduguri, the epicentre of the insurgency.
