On Saturday, suspected ISWAP fighters ambushed a military convoy on the Gubio/Damasak highway in northern Borno State.
Soldiers were reportedly injured in the attack while utility vehicles belonging to the troops were taken after a gun battle.
The soldiers were on their way to Gubio in Borno State to pick APC members for their ward congress in Damasak when they were ambushed at Kareto.
Bukar Gana Kareto, who represents Kukawa/ Guzamala/Abadam/ Mobbar Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, is from Kareto.
Due to the activities of Boko Haram/ISWAP, Kareto has been abandoned for years.
Soldiers were supposed to accompany the politicians from Abadam to Damasak, where their Ward Congress was held.
Though Abadam Local Government Area has been a no-go area since 2014, politicians from the LGA were mobilized for a congress in Damasak, but the incident prevented them from attending, forcing them to return to Gubio.
The military authorities have yet to react to this attack.
