Suspect Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) members are now engaged in a fire battle with government soldiers at a military installation in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

In the early hours of today morning, several residents reported seeing ISWAP militants in a lengthy convoy of weapons trucks traveling down the Ngude axis towards Askira.

The villagers stated that they informed security personnel of the terrorists’ movement, but that no action was done until the lethal bunch entered Askira town hours later.

Our reporter was informed that rebels and soldiers are now exchanging gunfire in Borno State while Engr Abdullahi Musa Askira, Deputy Speaker of the Borno House Assembly, confirmed the assaults.

“Yes, the ISWAP is now assaulting the town of Askira. I’ve received reliable information that our men are engaged in combat with them, but that the locals have fled into the jungle.

“My guys informed me that the rebels arrived with around 16 gun trucks, and that there is now chaos across the whole town,” Engr. Askira said.

Yakubu Luka, a member of the civilian Joint Task Force, said that as soon as the assailants invaded the town, they headed to the military facility.

In the meanwhile, heavy shooting is continuing as I talk with you.” “We are expecting reinforcements from the surrounding village,” says the commander.

“We are pleading with the government to dispatch fighter planes to provide assistance for the ground troops.” The fact that we only have five gun trucks with us means that we are outnumbered.” Yakubu shared his thoughts.

As of the date of submission of this report, it was not possible to determine the causality data.
