A Lodwar court denied bail on Friday to a police officer accused of raping a refugee.
Kennedy Kamande, a police constable from Kakuma 4 in Turkana County, is suspected of raping a 40-year-old refugee and fleeing.
Kamande maintained his innocence before Lodwar Chief Magistrate Mwangi K Mwangi.
Bail was denied to the accused because he was a flight risk.
Following his release on police bond in 2019, Kamande disappeared from police radar, only for him to be arrested by the Internal Affairs Unit of the National Police Service, which had been tracking him since then.
The prosecution has lined up 13 witnesses, and the trial is set for the 2nd of September.
