Equestrian Australia announced on Wednesday that Australian equestrian athlete Jamie Kermond has been provisionally suspended from the Tokyo Olympics after his A sample tested positive for cocaine.
Sport Integrity Australia conducted the test on June 26, 2021, and Kermond can now request an analysis of his B sample, the sport’s governing body in Australia said in a statement.
The World Anti-Doping Agency warned Kermond that while the provisional suspension is in place he will be unable to compete in events sanctioned by WADA, including the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Mr Kermond will be offered support services by Equestrian Australia.”
The 36-year-old is one of three showjumpers in Australia’s nine-member equestrian team at the Games, which begin on Friday.
Kermond was informed of his provisional suspension and the selection committee for the Australian Olympic team will consider the matter on Wednesday.
