Kogi State’s Kabba Correctional Centre was attacked and two soldiers were killed, according to reports.
Gunmen reportedly invaded the prison in the early hours of Monday, freeing many prisoners.
Some metres before the prison located along the Lokoja-Okebukun-Kabba-highway, soldiers are said to have mounted a routine check point.
According to reports, some guards at the prison were injured in the attack.
Prison sources say some of the inmates who fled have been rearrested.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 8, Ayuba Edeh, confirmed the attack and said efforts are being made to find the attackers.
