The 86-year-old king of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz, left the hospital on Sunday following a colonoscopy last week, according to a statement released by the royal court on state television.
Saudi TV broadcast a footage of the king using a cane as he departed King Faisal Specialist Hospital in the city of Jeddah, where he had been admitted on May 7 evening.
His entourage remained close, and his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of the kingdom, featured in the video.
In 2015, King Salman, the guardian of Islam’s holiest sites, ascended to the throne of the world’s leading oil exporter, Saudi Arabia, after serving for more than two and a half years as crown prince and deputy premier.
In 2020, he underwent bladder surgery, and in March he had the battery of his heart pacemaker updated.
