Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz was admitted to a hospital in the Red Sea city of Jeddah on Saturday to undertake medical testing, according to a statement from the royal court cited by the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday.

The tests are being conducted at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, according to the statement, which provided no further information.

In 2015, King Salman, the guardian of Islam’s holiest sites, ascended to the throne of the world’s leading oil exporter, Saudi Arabia, after serving for more than two and a half years as crown prince and deputy premier.

In 2020, the king underwent gallbladder surgery, and in March, the battery of his heart pacemaker was replaced.
