Matthew Isaac, a police corporal of the Ebonyi State Police Command, has been detained for celebrating cultism.

Isaac was captured on camera praising a fraternity while dancing and flashing his service rifle.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, condemned the crime and ordered that the offending officer be punished accordingly.

He stated, “The IGP has criticised the disgraceful behaviour of the police officer seen on viral video singing, dancing, and brandishing a firearm in honour of a certain fraternity” (cult). The officer has been identified as Matthew Isaac, a corporal with the Ebonyi State Police Command.”

Adejobi described the act as a deliberate attempt to portray the police in an unfavourable light, using the requirements of the First Schedule to Regulation 370 of the Police Regulations as justification.

He said, “His activities breached the NPF Social Media Policy (SMP), criminal legislation, and other statutes governing the conduct and discipline of all police personnel.”

“The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has ordered the Commissioner of Police in charge of Ebonyi State to detail the Command’s OC Provost to hand over the offending officer to the Force Provost Marshall for disciplinary action.

“The IGP reminded officers that any violation of the regulations governing the Force will be punished harshly.”
