After a vehicular collision on a Calabar highway on Friday night, 25 soldiers from the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Calabar are in critical condition.
According to witnesses, their truck was speeding and the driver was heavily suspected of being inebriated.
According to eyewitness Etim Akpan, five female officers were gravely injured.
“Many of them were smashed in the head.
“A number of others were hurt to differing degrees.
“It was raining, and we noticed the army truck was speeding.” At the speed breaker point, it was unable to slow down.
“So it slammed into the speed limiter, leapt, and destroyed this Sienna that was on the market.” They landed in a large gutter.
“We had to assist with their evacuation.” They were transferred to the navy hospital in Calabar, according to the eyewitness.
The soldiers were reportedly on their way to Ogoja.
The troops were carried to the navy hospital, according to Dr. Oyi of the accident and emergency unit, but two of them were transferred to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
At the hospital, army Captain H. I. Audu claimed there was no time to speak because they needed to deal with the emergency situation first.
Mr. John Eluu, the owner of the bus that was flattened by the truck, said he would keep the automobile for sale and urged the military to replace the bus.
