In Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area, the Anambra State Police Command has slain more than ten criminals and razed three camps that sheltered suspected criminals.

During the operation, the police found a human skull, a locally-made rocket-propelled RPG launcher, two (RPG) bombs, a single-barreled long rifle, and an empty bullet chain from the perpetrators.

Saturday’s statement from the state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, revealed this information. According to him, the assault on the criminal suspects occurred on Friday.

Ikenga stated that the suspects had previously captured two police officers and a civilian. The victims assisted the police in their endeavour to recover a vehicle that had been stolen.

However, the police reinforced and evicted the suspected criminals, resulting in the deaths of ten of them and the escape of many others with bullet wounds.

During the raid, police seized a human skull, a locally-made rocket-propelled giant RPG launcher, two (RPG) bombs, a single-barreled long rifle, and a bulletless chain.

“Other recovered things include a Toyota Sienna, a Mercedes-Benz 4matic SUV, two cylinders, a massive amount of hard drugs, and a police beret and belt,” he said.

According to Ikenga, the finding was the result of a counter-offensive operation initiated against criminal elements who ambushed a six-man police squad and a civilian car tracker on a recovery mission for a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon on 15/7/2022.

“The vehicle was stolen at gunpoint in Oye-Agu Abagana on 9/7/2022.” Four police agents evaded the ambush, but the crooks seized two agents and the car tracker.

“Unfortunately, several of the criminals fled with gunshot wounds. They (criminals) slaughtered their captives (two police officers and a civilian) and set fire to their bodies.

“The remains of the two killed police officers and the civilian car-tracker have been collected and placed in a mortuary, while a police effort to track down the fleeing gang members continues in the region,” he said.

Ikenga reported that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Echeng Echeng, condoled with the families and friends of the murdered civilian and the police operatives, describing the incident as a classic illustration of the dangers and sacrifices the police face in their arduous mission to serve and protect the nation.

Echeng also promised the people of Anambra that efforts are being strengthened to reclaim and dominate all public areas held by hoodlums in the state by apprehending them and their accomplices and bringing them to justice.
