ACP Emmanuel Idowu Asufi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration in the Bayelsa State Police Command, fell and died while on duty on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, ACP Asufi was claimed to have fallen and died at the Police headquarters in Ovom village, Yenagoa.

The unexpected death of the police chief stunned the Bayelsa Police Command.

The deceased was a native of Delta State’s Ekwani village. At the State Police Command, he was the ACP in charge of Administration.

The tone was sombre when journalists visited the police state command on Wednesday.

Many police officers who worked with the deceased expressed astonishment at his untimely death.

“It was startling,” a police officer assigned to Operation Puff Adder in Bayelsa told media. Many of us observed him enter the headquarters smiling and greeting everyone, including the rank and file. But we were taken aback when an alarm went off and he fell. They had no choice but to hurry him to the Federal Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead.”

SP Asinim Butswat, the police spokesman in Bayelsa State, confirmed ACP Asufi’s death and said it was a sad day for the command.

The deceased was the Bayelsa Government House’s Chief Security Officer and the Commander of the State Security Outfit, Operation Door Akpor.
