Nine individuals, including four women and five children, have been taken from Shema Quarters in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State by gunmen suspected of being bandits.

A few weeks had passed after the assassination of the Area Commander of Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar, who the bandits referred to as the “god of Dutsinma.”

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, a large group of suspected bandits assaulted the Shema Quarters in Dutsinma town and operated for almost 30 minutes before the arrival of security personnel.

A resident of the quarters, who requested anonymity, revealed to our reporter that this was the first time such an incident had occurred.
“At the time, it was raining, and one of our neighbours informed me that gunmen were attempting to forcibly enter the home of one Abdulaziz Lawal, but there was nothing we could do because they were firing.

“Eventually, they broke into the home and abducted a woman and her infant, as well as a second housewife and her younger sister. Then, at the residence of Usman Datti Yarima, they abducted two women and three children, bringing the total to nine,” he added.

According to him, both husbands were at home throughout the assault. While one climbed the fence, the other hid in the ceiling.

SP Gambo Isah, the Police spokesman in Katsina, confirmed the event when called, stating that nine individuals had been kidnapped and that the police were on the trail of the perpetrators to recover the victims safely.

He noted that security in the region had been increased.
