On Sunday, bandits attacked Hayin Kanwa village in the Yakawada ward of Kaduna State’s Giwa Local Government Area, killing at least 15 civilians.
The tragedy occurred three days after approximately 50 persons were alleged to have been killed in nine villages in the same LGA.
The victims were buried on Monday, according to a member of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) in Giwa who requested anonymity.
According to him, the situation in Giwa is deteriorating because individuals have been slain on a daily basis since Thursday.
“The situation is dire because bandits slaughtered 15 more people in Hayin Kanwa just last night (Sunday).” “These criminals have been raiding villages and killing people since Thursday,” he claimed.
Another Giwa resident, Ridwan, told Daily Trust that bandits routinely raid the village.
“They came into the village and started shooting randomly, killing these folks.” “Did you realize the bodies couldn’t be removed till this morning?” he said.
He further stated that the bandits preferred to kill victims rather than kidnap them.
Another local informed Daily Trust that some of the victims were buried near Hayin Kanwa in Tashar Sharri, and that the death toll could rise.
Abubakar Shehu, the chairman of the Giwa Local Government, could not be reached by phone.
Samuel Aruwan, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, did not return calls or respond to text messages given to him.
ASP Jalige Mohammed, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, did not return calls.
