Sunday, along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road in Borno State, gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram members ambushed at least two police officers and injured five others.
A security source reported that rebels attacked and burned two patrol cars in the village of Goni Matari, located between Mainok and Jakana in the Kaga Local Government Area of the state.
“In the early hours of morning, at approximately 0800hourz, Boko Haram terrorists parked their trucks and crept past the parapets surrounding the village of Goni Matari, which was one of their typical crossing points.”
“They also set fire to two police vehicles before fleeing at the sight of a reinforcement team led by the commander of the 29 Task Force Battalion, as well as the police CRACK team and Rapid Response Squad.
“The bodies of the two slain police officers were found by troops from the Borno State Police Command,” said a security source.
