Jeremiah Omoniyi, a college journalist covering the present governorship race in Ekiti State, has been arrested by agents of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development dispatched Omoniyi, a student from Ekiti State University, to the polling location (CJID).
The DSS detained him for posting a video of party agents fighting at PU 001, Ward 01, Irepodun Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA).
The voting district is that of former Ekiti governor Ayodele Fayose.
Before approaching Omoniyi, the about 15-year-old DSS agents arrived at the polling location to inquire about the video’s poster.
However, the journalist apparently denied sharing the footage.
While some political leaders have reported a large voter turnout, others have alleged instances of vote buying.
Biodun Olujimi, the senator for Ekiti Central, stated that the Ekiti governorship election had a high participation.
However, Kemi Elebute-Halle, the candidate for governor of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ekiti, claimed that other political parties were financially incentivizing votes.
