Nelson Emeka Achukwu, a former member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, was taken from his home in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State, two weeks before to the discovery of his decapitated body.
A family member stated that they did not expect he would be killed after a ransom of N15 million was paid to his kidnappers.
His relatives discovered the body of Achukwu alias Ogbatuluenyi on the bank of the Ulasi River between Uke and Ukpor.
The heinous act occurred few weeks after the death of Okechukwu Okoye, a politician who represented Governor Charles Soludo’s seat in the House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye.
According to a family source, the severed body of Achukwu was interred on Tuesday since it had begun rotting.
The deceased was well-liked throughout Chris Ngige’s tenure as governor of the state.

After regaining his release, he reportedly told his family that he was suspected of supplying intelligence to the military by his captors.
DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the police spokesman in Anambra State, confirmed Achukwu’s murder when contacted.
He stated, “The victim was taken about 10 p.m. on June 9 from his residence, and efforts were made to recover him prior to this terrible event.” His body was discovered on the border between Uke and Ukpor.
