Nigeria’s federal government has asked Iran to work with Nigeria’s military in a stronger way.

Bashir Magashi, the minister of defence, made the call on August 24 while he was meeting with Mohammed Alibak, the Iranian ambassador to Nigeria.

During the meeting, the minister said that it would be good for both countries to work together more.

He was quoted by the minister’s special assistant, Mohammad Abdulkadir, as saying that there has never been a better time for Nigeria’s real allies to show up than now, when the country is fighting off multiple threats to its territorial integrity.

The minister was quoted as saying that a “friend in need is a friend indeed” after hearing about the plans to improve military ties between Nigeria and Iran.

Mohammed Alibak, the Iranian ambassador, thanked the minister for giving strategic direction that would help to fine-tune a strategy and synergy for the new partnership with Nigeria.

Albak promised to be a part of the new plans, which include a Nigerian delegation going to Iran to check out the fighting equipment that Iran is giving to Nigeria.
