Five wedding guests who were kidnapped in Anambra on Monday have been freed, police said.
When they spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Awka, they confirmed that they had been released, according to a family source and the police.
A group of criminals held the wedding guests at gunpoint on the Akpo-Nkpologwu Road in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra while they were on their way back from a wedding ceremony.
An unnamed family member stated that they were released throughout the week in good health and have since been reunited with their families, but did not specify if a ransom had been paid to secure their freedom.
Moreover, the informant stated that the kidnappers were still in possession of the Toyota Camry vehicle in which the rescued men were travelling.
“We respectfully request that they release the vehicle,” he pleaded.
On Sunday, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra state police spokesman, also verified the release of the guys, according to the police.
