Tuesday, May 17th, an explosion in the Sabon Gari region of the state resulted in the death of at least four individuals and the injury of several others.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Samaila Dikko, acknowledged that it was a gas explosion and not a bomb, as social media had widely claimed.

Dikko stated at the site that the explosion was caused by a cylinder used for welding, adding that four dead have been discovered and efforts are being undertaken to rescue the other victims.

It is a gas cylinder and not a bomb. “There is a welder present, and he was the initial victim,” the CP claimed.

“One female and three males have been murdered thus far. Here are all the security agencies. The Civil Defence, the Air Force Brigade commander, myself, and the DSS director are all on the ground.

“We will continue our inquiry, and at the end of the day, we will reveal the truth,” he continued.

In the interim, a joint team of security services, including the Police, DSS, and Civil Defence Corps, sealed off the area.

A rescue team from the National Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Road Safety Corp was also on the scene to transport injured individuals.
