Thursday in Abuja, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari for Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu met with former President Goodluck Jonathan.
In a tweet, the presidential spokesman shared a photo of himself with the Nigerian president.
“I just ran into President Goodluck Jonathan at the Italian National Day event at the Fraser Suites Hotel in Abuja this evening. He was friendly and cordial, Shehu had tweeted.
The spokesperson for Buhari was among those who were extremely critical of Jonathan during the first term of this administration.
Garba Shehu has held former President Goodluck Jonathan responsible for Buhari’s delay in naming cabinet members.
The president’s six-month delay in unveiling his cabinet drew widespread criticism.
However, Shehu stated that Jonathan’s government’s failure to work with the transition committee had a detrimental impact on the current administration.
The criticism of Jonathan, however, diminished as the previous president warmed up to Buhari.
Jonathan had been linked to the presidential candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with several governors apparently advocating for him to succeed Buhari.
His absence from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gave rise to rumours that he had abandoned the PDP.
But Jonathan was absent during the APC’s presidential vetting.
