Some gunmen who attacked the Mabila Hotel in Ikorodu, Lagos State, early on Wednesday morning shot and killed the hotel’s gateman.
Reportedly, the attackers also robbed Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials who were staying at the hotel.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesman for Lagos Command, verified the event to the News Agency of Nigeria and stated that the victims had been transported to a safe location.
Prof. Odunsi, an official with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), was robbed of his two phones, one HP laptop, and N20,000 in cash, he said.
Similarly, two female JAMB officials who were staying at the hotel had their phones and jewellery stolen.
Hundeyin stated that Peter, the 40-year-old gatekeeper, was shot while attempting to impede the criminals’ escape.
He revealed that the guard was rushed to a hospital, where he later died, and added that the body had been transported to the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue.
The police received a distress call at 2:40 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the spokesperson, and a team from the Owutu division quickly responded.
“The criminals spotted the approaching police vehicle and fled in a Lexus SUV. The Lagos State Police Commissioner, CP Abiodun Alabi, has guaranteed that no stone will be left unturned. He has ordered a thorough search for the suspects,” he added.
