A prominent radio and television pastor, Apostle John Okoriko, has been kidnapped in Akwa Ibom State by unknown assailants.

Okoriko, the founder of the Solid Rock Kingdom Church (SRKC) in the Ibekwe Akpan Nya village in the state’s Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, was abducted on Tuesday evening, April 19.

According to reports, five gunmen entered the church premises, which also serves as his country residence, and carried him away to an unknown place.

Witnesses informed reporters that the shooters stormed the pastor’s home after scaling the rear fence leading to a dense jungle around 10 minutes after the victim pulled up with his Lexus SUV.

“After successfully scaling the fence, the attackers began firing intermittently and forcibly entered his sitting room, from where they carried the octogenarian, prompting neighbours to flee for safety,” a neighbour, Bassey Asuquo, told reporters.

He went on to say that Police operatives were promptly summoned, and that several volunteer youngsters joined the Police to scour the bushes in search of Pastor Okoriko, but to no avail.

According to family members who did not want to be recognised, the Apostle contacted the family directly on his phone to inform them that his kidnappers needed N100 million before he could be released.

SP Odiko Macdon, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence in a brief statement issued on Wednesday.

“The Command has received a report on the occurrence, and the Commissioner of Police Andrew (CP), Mr. Amiengheme Andrew, has ordered a discreet investigation with the goal of apprehending the culprits and ensuring the victim’s safety,” the PPRO said.
