On Monday, gunmen thought to be executing the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) Monday sit-at-home command shot at passengers in the New Market section of Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The bus carrying the passengers was alleged to be riddled with gunfire as they left their houses early to attend to their enterprises.

According to a report, the assailants opened fire near Colliery Hospital, killing some passengers.

However, there were different accounts on the number of casualties, with some media claiming that at least two people were killed while the police said there were none.

ASP Daniel Ndukwe, Enugu Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who confirmed the event, said there was no known death.

“In the early hours of this morning, there was a gunshot incident at Odegba, along Iva Valley Road, Enugu, by yet-to-be identified armed guys, which resulted in the injuries of two persons,” Ndukwe added.

“However, the victims are responding to treatment at the hospital, where they were quickly transported by police officers who responded quickly to a distress call about the incident.”

“In the meantime, an investigation has been begun to apprehend the fleeing criminals, please.”
