Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism for Nasarawa State, Mr. Yakubu Lawal, has been kidnapped, according to a member of the Nigeria Police Force in that state’s command.
According to the information gathered by Shauntv, kidnappers recently visited Lawal at his home in Nasarawa Eggon, the state capital and administrative centre of the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
A schoolteacher was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Saturday, August 13, 2022, sending shockwaves across the Nasarawa Eggon LGA and the rest of the state.
It was learned that at around 8:45 p.m., armed individuals broke into the home of the information commissioner and began firing shots into the air, driving away the locals before kidnapping the official.
Our journalist was also told by a family member that the incident had taken place. According to information gathered, the operation took place for more than 30 minutes before the arrival of security personnel.
A teacher at Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Nasarawa Eggon LGA, Auta Nasela, was shot and killed about 8 p.m. on Saturday, according to our correspondent. Another teacher was injured in the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Rahman Nansel, released a statement on Tuesday morning confirming the commissioner’s abduction and saying that the command had already dispatched officers to the scene in the hopes of retrieving the victim unharmed.
Adesina Soyemi, the commissioner of police, said, “Police operatives attached to Nasarawa Eggon Division ran to the area and were promptly reinforced by a combined detachment of the Police Mobile Force, the anti-kidnapping squad, military troops, vigilantes, and local hunters.”
On August 15, at around 20:45 local time, police officers on routine patrol in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of the state became aware of the intermittent sounds of gunfire.
The arriving authorities learned that a man named Yakubu Lawal Addah had been forcibly kidnapped from his home by armed guys who fired shots at random.
The united team, led by Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, ACP Halliru Aliyu, is currently conducting a search and rescue operation in an effort to locate the victim and bring the offenders to justice.
