In Ukpor, Anambra State, gunmen killed one person and set fire to the Nnewi South Local Government Area Secretariat.

On Thursday morning, the event occurred. According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was a member of the Council Secretariat’s security team.

The Council was tense, with citizens fearful for their lives.

Ukpor in Nnewi South is home to a number of important politicians, including Mbazulike Amechi, the first Minister of Aviation, who is 92 years old; Hon Cyril Maduabom, a former House of Representatives member; and Hon Rita Maduagwu, the former Anambra Speaker.

Anambra Police spokesman, Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the event but said he had not yet determined the number of victims.

He stated that operatives had been dispatched to the region, and that men from the State Fire Service had already arrived on the scene to put out the fire.

Tochukwu went on to say that the Anambra Commissioner of Police had visited the location to examine the situation.

He said it was an act of arson.
