Gunmen killed two people and kidnapped four others in Kaduna State yesterday, including Reverend Father Joseph Akeke of Kudenda Catholic Church in Chikun Local Government Area.
Luka, a local guard watching the Reverend Father’s house, and Isiaka Aremu, whose home was also targeted by the robbers, were identified as the two victims killed.
A mother and her two adult children were also seized by the gunman, in addition to the Reverend Father.
The shooters stormed the hamlet around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, shooting intermittently, according to an eyewitness. According to reports, the operation lasted until 2:30 a.m.
“We couldn’t sleep last night because of the stress and gunshots,” a local named Samson explained.
The shooters targeted three residents at the same time, according to our correspondent who visited the village yesterday.
Residents were reported to have trooped out at night after the bandits escaped, causing tension in the town.
Isiaka Aremu’s son claimed that his father lived alone and that he had no idea how the bandits got into the house.
When called, ASP Mohammed Jalige, the Kaduna police spokesman, claimed he needed time to investigate the case and promised to call back.
Later attempts to contact him were unsuccessful since he did not answer the phone.
