In Ekwulobia, Anambra State, gunmen allegedly killed two security guards at St Joseph’s Cathedral Church.
They were killed for attending a prayer session at the church organized by the state Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, on Monday.
The event occurred shortly after prayer.
However, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the state police command spokesman, stated just one person was slain.
Invading at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, the unknown Gunmen fired nonstop along the road near to Aguata LGA Secretariat before hitting one of the Church security personnel.
Tochukwu said no arrests had been made but the command had increased security.
He said investigations were ongoing and the command will not cease in pursuing the criminals.
An eyewitness told media the cops misled them about the death toll.
The hoodlums reportedly attacked the neighborhood unopposed.
This comes after a spate of killings in Anambra State since Thursday.
People stated members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) advised people not to attend any prayer session on Monday as ordered by Governor Soludo.
But IPOB’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, disputed the order, claiming it was not issued by the organisation.
