Gunmen have set fire to the secretariat in Anambra State’s Aguata Local Government Area, where Governor Charles Soludo is from.
The terrorists, who were on motorcycles, used a vehicle to block the road before entering the secretariat and setting it on fire, according to Daily Trust.
Several stores within the council headquarters were also burned, according to a local who requested anonymity.
Soldiers arrived minutes after the arsonists fled, he added, to apprehend several locals.
“Because my house is directly across from the secretariat, we witnessed everything that transpired.” Right now, I’m hiding beneath my bed with my kids because everyone is terrified.”
“We don’t know if there were any injuries yet,” the neighbour stated, “but troops have already arrested youngsters from our village.”
Meanwhile, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed there was a fire and that emergency workers had been dispatched to the location.
“We’ve also contacted the Anambra Fire Service to put out the fire, and I can only say that the specifics are still fuzzy at this point.”
“I can’t talk to you about casualty counts right now; it will have to wait until we’ve secured the area,” he explained.
