The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has detained 99 people in the state’s Kazaure and Dutse local government areas for alleged immoral behavior.
On Tuesday, March 22, the Hisbah Commander, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru, confirmed the arrest to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Dutse, the state capital.
The suspects, which include 54 women and 44 men, were apprehended by board operatives on March 16 and 17 in separate operations, according to Dahiru.
He explained that 91 individuals were apprehended on March 16 after a raid on the popular Gada village in Kazaure, with 49 ladies and 42 males.
Those arrested, he claims, were accused of engaging in illicit sexual practices and other immoral behaviors.
During the operation, however, the Commander stated that 21 of the male suspects were not located with women.
The remaining eight suspects, five women and three men, were apprehended on March 17 in Dutse, according to the commander.
During the operation, eight bottles of alcoholic beverage were seized, according to him.
Hisbah operatives will continue to raid any hideouts used to perform immoral actions and other vices across the state, according to Dahiru.
He praised the state’s police and people for their support and cooperation with the board, which allowed it to properly carry out its tasks.
