Ondo Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has denied claims that he said the terrorists who assaulted St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo were from Mali and trained in Libya.
Akeredolu encouraged the State’s citizens to dismiss the false information completely.
Akeredolu, through his Chief Press Secretary, Olabode Olatunde, issued a statement in which he urged the citizens of Owo to resist the impulse to retaliate and refrain from attacking non-indigenous town residents.
According to him, he said that none of the Owo residents were involved in the terrorist act.
According to him, the accusation was warranted due to rumours of planned retaliation attacks against non-natives in Owo who were believed to share the same ethnic origin as the suspects.
This is a difficult period in Ondo State. The mood of the state is melancholy at this awful time. We ask the media not to mislead the general people by reporting accurate and factual information. Now is not the time for excessive sensationalism.”
