On Sunday, the president stated this on a national broadcast.

In addition to assuring Nigerians that the government is working diligently to address security issues, he urged people to engage in prayer.

“On this important day, I want us all to remember and pray for all victims of terrorist operations. I have everyday sorrow and concern for all the victims and captives of terrorism and kidnapping. Together with the security forces, I am doing all possible to ensure the safe release of these sad citizens.”

“For the relatives of those who have lost their lives, we will continue to pursue justice against the criminals.” We will not rest until those now held captive are released and their captors are brought to justice. If we all band together, we shall prevail over these agents of terror and destruction.

Some of our security structures have been modified. Some of the defence assets we acquired three years ago have now arrived and been put into service.

“We are upgrading our cyber security and surveillance technologies to improve our ability to track and trace criminal elements. Additionally, we are recruiting and training additional employees for all of our security and intelligence organisations in order to bolster the nation’s overall security.”
