An improvised explosive device (IED) apparently set by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), has exploded, injuring two members of the illegal organisation severely.

Wednesday, 1 June 2022, the event occurred along the Eke Ututu – Orsu road in the Orsu Local Government Area of the state of Imo.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, issued the following statement: “The dissidents accidentally stepped on the IED that they had earlier planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area, while attempting to evade the troops’ assault on terrorists in the area.

“In a fruitless attempt to cause harm to the troops, the criminal organisation has repeatedly planted IEDs along patrol routes.”

“We ask all peace-loving residents of the South East to tell the military of any areas where these explosives may have been buried so that they can be safely removed and disposed of.”
