After four months in prison, Mohammed Askira, 50, and his brothers have been released.
Askira and his two brothers, members of the royal line of the Askira/Uba Emirate in Borno state, were abducted by the Islamic State’s West Africa Province in November 2021. (ISWAP).
The trio was abducted while on their way to Maiduguri after attending a ceremony there.
ISWAP posted recordings of Askira and other abductees from various regions in Nigeria’s northeast after they were kidnapped.
Mohammed and his brothers, who are siblings of Abdullahi Mohammed Askirama II, the Emir of Askira, have recovered their freedom.
Concerned residents have gone to social media to express their joy for their release.
