When bandits invaded nine settlements in Kaduna State’s Giwa Local Government Area, almost fifty people were killed and an unknown number were abducted.

The incident was confirmed by ASP Mohammed Jalinge, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, who said the command has yet to collate the actual number of deaths registered during the invasion.

“We’re still waiting for the Divisional Police Officer Giwa and the Area Commander Zaria to give us the entire information of the incident,” he said.

Mansur Ibrahim, a member of the Vigilante Group in the Dillalai area, told Daily Trust that the robbers also burned down houses and vehicles, stole motorcycles, and rustled away over 100 cows.

Dillalai, Zango Tama, Kaya, Barebari, Anguwan Bakko, Gidan Alhajin Kida, Kadanya, and Durumi were among the villages impacted.

“Dillalai was the hardest impacted by the incident, which claimed the lives of roughly 15 people and resulted in the burning of five commercial trucks and five homes.

“The bandits also set fire to a chapel in Zangon Tama hamlet,” he added, referring to the Giwa local government region.

Some of the patients with gunshot wounds are being treated at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika-Zaria, according to Ibrahim.
