The Kaduna State Police Command shot and killed two suspected bandits attempting to kidnap innocent villagers in the hamlet of Kimdi, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
According to the command, numerous further wounded bandits fled into the forest.
This was said in a statement signed by ASP Jalige Mohammed, the state’s Police Command Public Relations Officer.
He added that the event occurred on May 31, 2022, when police received a distress call indicating that a large group of bandits had arrived in the region.
“The action was in response to distress information received on the same date at approximately 1600 hours that large groups of armed bandits had assaulted Kimdi village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area on a mission of kidnapping.
“The Command promptly despatched a nearby squad of elite operatives to the scene, where an exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the elimination of two bandits and the recovery of two AK-47 assault rifles,” he said.
Jalige stated that the recent accomplishments of the Command and its sister agencies demonstrate that no effort is spared in the fight against criminal elements.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Yekini A. Ayoku, is thus urging all stakeholders and communities involved to exercise restraint in communicating the situation to the public in order to prevent exacerbating the worries of the people.
Also, he reiterates that security is unquestionably everyone’s responsibility, but that unguarded communication has the potential to undermine the ongoing concerted effort being made to mitigate the negative impact of these challenges so that farmers can make the most of this growing season to boost the State’s economy.
On the same day that robbers attacked cars along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway, bandits burned eight vehicles and kidnapped an indeterminate number of occupants.
