A 48-year-old provisions seller, Chinedu Arinze, was kidnapped while carting away foodstuffs and drinks from his shop in Adagba community, Yaba ward, Abaji area council of Abuja.
According to James Gwatana, a resident of the neighbourhood, the event occurred on Monday about 8:11 p.m., when Muslims were praying.
He said that the kidnappers, who arrived in huge numbers and used sophisticated weaponry, stormed the supplies shop and carried away the victim amid intermittent gunfire.
“The kidnappers preyed on Muslims observing prayers before storming the supply business, while other gangs stood outside firing into the air before whisking away the victim.”
He said that the kidnappers also took over 100 phones, which had been brought to the victim’s business for charging by several villagers.
According to him, other locals on their way to the business to buy things were compelled to turn around owing to the kidnappers’ random gunfire.
Through a phone call to our reporter, the vice-chairman of the council, Abubakar Abdullahi, a local of the village, verified the abduction of the supplies salesman.
“In reality, I was in the village when the event occurred at 8:00 p.m., when I heard gunshots.” “I asked after a while and was told that one Arinze Chinedu, who sells provisions, had been abducted,” he claimed.
DSP Adeh Josephine, the spokeswoman for the FCT police command, was not to return calls or respond to a text message given to her to confirm the kidnapping occurrence.
