On Saturday, June 11, the abductors of 29 Zamfara business people returning from a wedding in Sokoto state to their home state contacted their relatives and demanded a ransom of N145 million.

Seven victims who sold mobile phone accessories in the Bebeji marketplace in Guasau, the capital of the state, were rescued by vigilantes 24 hours after their abduction.

Monday, June 13, according to market union representatives, the abductors contacted the families of the 29 merchants held captive and demanded N5 million ransom for their release. According to them, the kidnappers demand that the ransom be paid in one large payment and not in instalments.

Zamfara has been one of the most active regions for kidnapping in the country.
