Delta State Police Command officers have rescued a kidnapped victim and apprehended a suspect kidnapper.

DSP Bright Edafe, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Sunday that ten suspected cultists, a drug baron, and four other suspects were also arrested, with tramadol, Indian hemp, and other illicit narcotics recovered from them.

“On April 1, 2022, at approximately 0430 hours, a distressed call was received from an anonymous caller in Igbide community, Oleh, stating that some hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers numbering about five (5) operating in a blue color Toyota Camry suspected to be transporting an abducted victim were spotted heading towards an isolated bush path in Igbide,” according to the PPRO.

As a result, DPO Oleh Division SP Paul Obaware quickly mobilized and led a combined squad of police/in vigilante’s the search for the vehicle in order to save the victim and apprehend the hoodlums.

When the hoodlums saw the cops were closing in on them, they attempted to transfer the victim but were greeted with strong resistance from the cops. One of the suspects, James Michael’m’ a.k.a. biggy, 29, who was on the Command’s wanted list, was apprehended, while others managed to flee.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is a member of the syndicate that kidnapped a woman (name withheld) in Oleh earlier this year and is also a member of the syndicate that attacked police officers in the Idu roundabout around two months ago, according to Edafe.

“The unharmed victim (name withheld) reported that he was kidnapped at Otor-Whe village on March 29, 2022 around 1522 hours. While the manhunt for the gang’s fleeing members continues, the victim has been reunited with his family “Added he.

In another event, suspected cultist hideouts in Udu/Otu-Jeremi of Udu and Ughelli south LGA’s were raided by Command raider’s agents on 31 March 2022 at around 1145 hours.

During the raid, ten suspected cultists were apprehended, and one hundred and one (101) wraps of SK, four (4) packs of weeds presumed to be Indian hemp, and ten milligrams of suspected cocaine were discovered.

Similarly, on 1/4/2022 at around 0825 hours, Raider’s operatives invaded Ogbe-Ogonogo market area and glory land both in Asaba, Oshimili South LGA and arrested a suspected drug baron named Amadu Musa’m’ age 55yrs and four other male suspects while acting on credible information.

Four hundred and thirty-six (436) wraps of weeds presumed to be Indian hemp, thirty (30) packets of tramadol, and other illegal substances were discovered during the operation. The investigation is still going on.

The command, led by CP Ari Muhammed Ali, will leave no stone unturned in the fight against crime and criminality in the state, according to the statement.
