According to the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), the killing of Northerners in the Southeast implies an ethnic cleansing intent.
Alhaji Yerima Shettima, president of the AYCF, issued a statement warning governors in the Southeast to take immediate action to stop the killing of innocent Northerners or face legal penalties.
Remember that militants of the illegal Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) slaughtered a mother, her four children, and six other Northerners on Sunday in Isulo, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
Nonetheless, arising from an emergency conference in Kaduna, the AYCF stated that the killing of Northerners working or trading in the Southeast at the smallest opportunity was a completely intolerable act of unwarranted provocation.
The group stated that it expected Anambra Governor Soludo to use his experience in governance and management to combat the killings, but he was a “disappointment.”
He stated, “The fact that the governors of the Southeast are the Chief Security Officers of their respective states, yet do nothing to halt the unprovoked slaughter of Northerners, implies an ethnic cleansing plan, which we condemn under whatever garb – IPOB attack or ESN.
“The murder of a woman and her infant, as well as a Christian aircraft engineer of Northern extraction, demonstrates that the lives of our own people are no longer cherished in the Southeast, where IPOB, ESN, and so-called unknown shooters act as non-state actors with impunity.
“Despite the brutal attacks on our sons and daughters in the Southeast, the silence of these governors must end immediately, and we wish to issue a warning that no Nigerian has a monopoly on violence and that Northerners’ respect for the rule of law should never be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.”
