On Monday morning, March 6, a 50-year-old suspected Nigerian drug dealer and a South African lady appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
Collins Emeka Akona and Mahlatse Maseko, a 24-year-old South African woman, were detained in Polokwane’s Thornhill Estate for possession of heroin and crystal meth substances valued R4.2 million.
Members of the Provincial Organized Crime Unit and Provincial Detectives apprehended the pair on Friday.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a spokesperson for the Limpopo Police Force, said they are still looking for Maseko’s partner, who fled the crime scene leaving the woman alone in a room full of narcotics.
Vincent Kunutu, the chairperson of Seshego Community Against Crime and Gansterism, has praised the arrest, noting that heroin and crystal meth are the most often used drugs among youngsters in the area.
These arrests, according to Kunutu, will send a strong message to the remaining drug lords who are ruining the educational system by selling drugs to students.
Meanwhile, their case has been rescheduled for a formal bail application on March 10th, 2022.
