Some security workers have been detained for allegedly transporting an N60 million ransom to criminals.
The ransom couriers were apprehended based on intelligence, according to PRNigeria.
According to reports, the operation, which was carried out simultaneously by ground soldiers of the Nigerian Army and special forces of the Nigerian Air Force, resulted in the elimination of some bandits and the rescue of victims.
During the synchronised operations, troops from the 271 NAF Detachment in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna, and forces from the Nigerian Army FOB in Gwaska, Kaduna, recovered scores of abducted victims, according to PRNigeria.
“The sum of N60,000,000 in cash, petroleum goods, and sophisticated weaponry was recovered during the raids,” the intelligence agent allegedly claimed.
Vehicles, AK-47 weapons, magazines, various types of ammo, and mobile phones were among the goods recovered by the military from the suspects.
“In the meanwhile, we will transfer the case of the apprehended couriers, who generally hold security agency identifications, to the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for further investigation,” says the statement.
Kidnapping for ransom has become into a lucrative industry for bandits and terrorists, with security forces trying to maintain control.
