Ms Chidinma Ogbulu, a Lagos socialite, was sentenced to two years in prison by a Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court for giving gasoline as a gift at a party she hosted.

After pleading guilty to the accusations against her, Ogbulu was sentenced by an Oshodi court.

According to a statement released by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice on Friday, the presiding Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare, found that the prosecution established its case against the socialite beyond a reasonable doubt.

After a video of numerous kegs of petrol being delivered to guests at Havillah Event Centre in Lagos went viral and garnered the ire of the state government and the police, the socialite surrendered herself in.

She had previously pled not guilty, but when the case came up for hearing on Thursday, she altered her plea.

On count one of the three-count charge, Ogundare sentenced the socialite to three months in prison or a fine of N15,000, and on count two, he sentenced her to one year in prison or a fine of N500,000.

On the third count, the socialite was sentenced to one year in prison or a fine of N500,000 by the chief magistrate.

“The socialite breached Sections 251(1), 168 (1), and 244 of the Criminal Law of the State of 2015, as well as Section 195 (2)(b) of the Environmental Management Protection Law of the State of 2017,” according to the statement.
