In Awka, the state capital, men from the Anambra state police command have detained a pastor for allegedly defiling a twelve-year-old girl.

The accused, who also works as a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, is accused of defiling the youngster who has been staying with him since Saturday, April 2.

The juvenile, identified as Uju Okafor from Ufuma in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, said she leaped down from a two-story structure at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday because she couldn’t handle the agony of rape and fractured her leg in the process.

The girl, who is being treated at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka, said her mother had sent her to a lady who took her to the clergyman’s house last Saturday to assist him clean because his family members were not present. She said that after doing her work that day, she retreated to the room assigned for her to sleep in, and that the priest then entered and reportedly began sexually harassing her. Uju claimed that he exposed his manhood and forced it into her body. She stated that she began to weep because it was quite painful.

She said she was harassed again the next day when the priest reportedly tried to compel her to suck his genitalia. He allegedly beat her up after she refused him. She went on to say that the alleged harassment persisted until she couldn’t take it any longer on Wednesday, when she leaped out of the house via the toilet window and fractured her leg.

Chinwe Okafor, the victim’s mother, verified her daughter’s description of what happened and demanded that justice be done.

DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, a state police public relations officer, confirmed the story, saying the suspect is in custody and the investigation is proceeding.
